apibrėžtis Tai, ką tiria pedagogikos mokslas. Šiuo metu vyrauja du požiūriai į pedagogikos objektą. Juo laikoma: 1) augančioji karta, 2) žmogus. Nepertraukiamojo ugdymo šalininkai teigia, kad žmogus ugdomas nuo gimimo visą gyvenimą, t. y. ugdomi ir suaugusieji (andragogika). Taigi pedagogikos objektas yra vaikas, jaunuolis. Edukologijos sąvoka apima ir suaugusius žmones (studentus, doktorantus, kvalifikacijos kursų klausytojus), apskritai žmogų, taip pat ir ugdymo veiksnius. Pedagogikos dalykas – tai aspektas, kuriuo tiriamas objektas. Žmogų tiria įvairūs mokslai: filosofija, biologija, psichologija, logika, antropologija ir kt. J. Vabalas-Gudaitis pedagogikos dalyku laikė konstrukcinę ugdytojų ir ugdytinių sąveiką – tikslingai organizuotą ir valdomą pedagogų ir ugdytinių konstruktyvų bendravimą rengiant ugdytinius socialiniam gyvenimui. Taigi pedagogikos dalykas yra sąmoningai organizuotas žmogaus ugdymo procesas, kitaip – žmogaus ugdymas.
